As Instagram constantly works on ways users can identify and consume relevant feeds to increase users’ interaction with content, ‘Favorites’ and ‘Not Interested’ are handy because users now have more control over what they see and do not notice.
Instagram’s Favorites gives users control over seeing favourites more often in the feeds, while the ‘Not Interested’ control removes irrelevant posts immediately.
Arguably, the latest Instagram “Favorite” option works more or less like TickTocks’ “For You“, where the algorithm detects content consumers’ preferences when expressing interest in a video.
According to Instagram.
“When you add an account to your Favorites, you’ll see their posts higher and more often. And you can see a dedicated feed of just your favourites to catch up on their posts quickly.”
One of the ways we personalize your feed is by predicting how likely you are to do something with a post you see. The more likely you are to take action, and the more heavily we weigh that action, the higher up you’ll see the post in your feed.
On the other hand, When you see a post you don’t find interesting or relevant, Instagram’s option for Not Interested’ control gives users the power to remove the post from their feed immediately.
How choose your Favorites works:To choose your Favorites, tap the Instagram logo at the top left and add up to 50 friends, family members, creators, or businesses. You can tap the three-dot menu on any post and directly select ‘Add to favourites’ from your feed.
Favorites enable you to see accounts you follow in chronological order, starting from the latest post, and you can see the last 30 days of posts to catch up on what you may have missed.
“Suggested posts are personalized for you based on what you interact with on Instagram, and you can provide feedback so that suggested posts are more relevant to your interests.”
How ‘Not Interested’ control works:When you see a post you don’t find interesting or relevant, tap the three-dot menu and then select ‘Not Interested’, or tap the X at the top right of a suggested post on Home.
Tapping ‘Not Interested’ removes the post from your feed immediately, and Instagram suggests fewer posts like it in the future.
Social networks constantly improve their feed algorithms, enabling users to feed based on relevancy and interest while creating a more meaningful online experience.
